Combining high resolution IP-based cameras with a feature rich video management control system, the video surveillance system at the new Danbury St. Croix Casino meets the challenges of a high tech gaming establishment. Designed and installed by North American Video (NAV), the new digital system is the second in a series of projects that NAV has deployed for the St. Croix Chippewa Indians of Wisconsin for their gaming facilities.
Security Products magazine, the only integrated product magazine reaching the entire security market, announced the winners of its 2010 New Product of the Year Award at the publication’s premiere Virtual Event today.
The grand opening for Scottsdale, Arizona’s newest and most lavish casino, the Talking Stick Resort, is scheduled for June 10, and already it’s being favorably compared to the high end properties on the Las Vegas Strip. It’s an apt comparison for the Talking Stick Resort, which unofficially opened on April 15, because, as at many of the Las Vegas casinos, the video surveillance system there was a design/build by North American Video and M. Malia and Associates. The 1,500-camera system also features one of the gaming industry’s first installations of a serverless storage solution.
The new Sheraton Puerto Rico Hotel and Casino has deployed an integrated surveillance system from IndigoVision, provider of IP video security solutions.
While I’m officially back in the office digging out from a deluge of ISC West news and information, I wanted to share some of what I learned in a behind-the-scenes tour of some of the security technology at the new ARIA Resort and Casino in Las Vegas last week.

Behind all the glamour and glitz, casinos are a lot like other businesses, yet they face a number of unique challenges. Casinos are required to adhere to numerous regulations and must secure their assets without causing inconvenience to customers. Casinos must protect against physical heists, but just as important, if not more so, casinos must protect their networks. Although it may not play as well on the big screen, a network breach could cost millions of dollars.

Axis Communications recently announced that the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma, the third largest tribe in the U.S., has expanded its use of Axis network video cameras to include more than 1,000 cameras at six casinos.
Arecont Vision, provider of IP-based megapixel camera technology, and Instek Digital, provider of NVR and Hybrid DVR solutions, recently announced an extended partnership, to offer a seamless and fully integrated solution with the industry’s first full line of H.264 megapixel IP cameras.
Gran Casino de Talca is a burgeoning gaming resort in Chile with an accommodation of 400 slot machines and 15 gaming tables. Delighted by the brisk business, the casino manager, however, faced increasing difficulty in management and security maintenance.

The action is fast, and the stakes are high. Fortunes are won or lost on the turn of a card or a roll of the dice. It’s where the rush of adrenaline meets the hope of beating the mathematical odds. And it’s the perfect application for IP video surveillance using powerful megapixel cameras.
